Well I'm off traveling about europe in a van for 6 months. I 'need' a computer with me, and I've settled for an older 486 running linux. This is mainly for cost and the desire not to take anything too precious with me. I'd like to be able to run, and charge the battery from the car cigarette lighter durring the day whilst driving. I remember being told that a cars power supply surges a bit especially when starting, and you'd need to take some precautions if you wanted to plug a PC in. My laptop says it will accept 7V/3A-12V/2A === If I have to do a little hardware hacking with my soldering iron, I'd like to do it here in Melbourne. Then again if purchasing some kind of adaptor is more sensible, well i'll do that. So I guess my questions are; Can I get the required V/A out of a car battery? 2-3 Amps sounds pretty high What sort of surge protection would be required? -- Binary Bar - Australia's first free access internet bar/cafe/gallery. 243 Brunswick Street, Fitzroy, Melbourne, Australia. 3pm - 1am http://www.binary.net.au/ Running on Debian/GNU Linux -- Subcription/unsubscription/info requests: send e-mail with subject of "subscribe", "unsubscribe", or "info" toWear-Hard Mailing List Archive (searchable): http://wearables.ml.org
