Re: Wireless serial connection:

Well, it sounds very strange. In some place they claim that it works
like a direct RS232 cable replacement and then it would not be OS
dependent and Linux, Windoze or whatever should be no problem, but in
the wavefaq http://www.innomedia.com/wavefaq.html
they say e.g. that it will really only support (under Win95) IPX and
NetBUI but not TCP/IP.
If it works like any kind of modem I can't see why it should not
be possible to set it up as a PPP connection between e.g. two Linux
machines. It may be that they refer to some strange limitation of the
Win95 in the FAQ although.
Typically as for many companies, their downloadable documentation
is not very informative and does not tell how their protocols work.
Before buying such a product I should really care for getting my
hand of the actual protocol (hayes compatible or whatever) used,
otherwise the product may show up to be useless. If you can't get
the protocol you should not buy anything from the company. By the
way I have to warn about a Radio I bought recently. A Wizard radio
from Gemtek. I mixed it up with another radio which I knew had
serial driver routines for Linux. I then wrote to their Taiwan
support and asked for the protocol, so I could adapt drivers for
the radio and got as answer "Unfortunately we don't support Linux".
What kind of answer is that? Fu.. that kind of companies!
