The P5 based display

Hi,
For those that are interested, Universal Data Stream has taken over
development of the P5 display "dev-kit". The intent is to supply these
kits at the same price, or very close to what PED inc was.

I've just received all of the docs and project materials, and am in the
process of digesting it (and there's lots of docs!). I've made a quick
web-site to cover development so far. http://www.unids.com/wearables is
the pointer. It's fairly sparce so far, but will fill out as I begin to
see just what I've gotten myself into :)

We intend to develop a driver for the kit in-house, possibly under GPL,
artistic, or similiar license. For starters, it will be a character based
driver. Those who are already working on drivers are encouraged to contact
me. Perhaps we can pool resources and come up with something fairly
quickly.

As it says on our web site, the Fax-view (which contains the P5 display)
is basically a dumbed down 68000 based computer with ~2 meg of ram. The
best part is that the boot code and fax-view program appear to reside in
flash. The future of this project may include doing some work in the flash
to make a VT100, x-term, or something along those lines... perhaps even an
OS, but I'm dreaming now.

In any case, as soon as I've contacted some vendors, and begun to get an
idea of what each unit will cost me, I'll provide more price and ordering
info.

Really quickly, I'd like to thank Tom at PED inc for the excellent job in
transitioning this project. BTW, they do some really cool stuff down there
in Wellesley.

Peace,
J*
