I've been looking for this as well (I'm addicted to connectivity). My
university is one of the initial deployment areas for DSL, which allows
simultaneous phone/data usage and boasts a transfer rate of 1.2 Mbps
($72/month). This seems like the best way to incorporate a cell phone in a
computer, but my question is, can DSL be cellular, or does it need the
physical line?

If it can be cellular, all my problems are solved, else I guess I'll
stick with a cellular modem and a separate cell phone.
