First of all, this is not so much of a hack as a rearrangement. Anyway,
due to this fact, it is completely reversable, but even so, i take no
responsibility for any damages caused by the use of this information.

First, open it up. Unscrew all screws on the "power board" and the smal
card that controls a cash drawer (has two telephone looking plugs).
Disconnect the fan, speaker, and cash drawer card. The speaker and fan
may be left in place, but the cash drawer thing must be removed. Now,
disconect the large, thisck black cable's extensions (the ones with
white black and red wires, and the other with two black wires) from the
sockets on the end of the power board closest to the front of the
machine.
Now comes the big, important part :). Lift the power board up from its
location, and situate it so that it resides above the motherboard upside
down (you may have to disconnect the brown connector to do this, just
make sure to reconnect it). Make sure to reconnect all of the stuff
branching off of the thick black cable. There! We have just eliminated a
good 2" from the final width of the computer! (I personally plan on
nixing the heavy metal case to use industrial strength plastic)

Second, I have a thought on power. For the batteries, I think it would
be best to use the backup battery port (that brown three pronged socket
on the bottom of the power board). The power drain is less than the 24V
socket, and it has no great impact on performance unless you are using
an ISA card that requires more than 5V (im not really familiar with how
much electricity most need...)
