I havnt seen a 56k modem, either, but why not use a PCMCIA adaptor card
and put a 56k modem in it? There are several PC Card 56k modems available,
even modem/ethernet combo ones. This could help you be more flexable and
maximize your small amount of space.  I also venture to say that the PC
Cards would consume less power than a PC-104 based modem since they're
desinged for laptop use, anyway.
