CDPD pricing has become more reasonable of late. AT&T is offering a flat-rate $50 month package now, I think. You might want to look into a regular CDPD modem for your laptop, rather than trying to use the Minstrel & PalmPilot. Coverage is still CDPD's biggest (and it's BIG) weakness. If I were you, I'd be looking to use my AMPS phone and modem. A bit pricey, but it ought to work just about everywhere. Satellite: you'll still need an uplink, as well as the downlink dish.
