Re: Timeline $99 Computer

Timeline is at http://www.digisys.net/timeline/, BUT, they have no info
that I can find on their web page about this machine (It's advertised in
Popular Electronics and perhaps other magazines.) I have one, as do
other folks; Ask any of us with a machine, we can find out what you
want to know.

From what I've seen so far, it's a small 486 desktop system with a
small Ni-Cad battery for power backup. I plan to get to installing
linux [Slackware 3.4] on mine (once I get a WORKING laptop HD over 130
Mb to install in 'er, or maybe I'll just stuff the 130Mb Seagate drive
in there for now.) The 1Gb laptop drive I bought is going back on an
RMA so I may not be doing this for ~ 2 weeks, slower than planned...

Any programs I can run as I go, to let you know more, just ask (I'll
definitely run dual boot Linux/Dos on mine, migrating towards pure Linux
as I get better at Linux but keeping backwards compatibility for now.
I'd probably find what I check for you, useful for me as well!)

Oh, BTW for cheaper IRDA adapters, HSC (Halted) has $29 for a PCMCIA
card PLUS an ISA card, or $19 apiece, at
http://www.halted.com/specials/pc.htm; I bought one set, will let me
attach the Laptop to the IRDA server once I hook that up, as well a my
PC110. I may get another pair (PCMCIA for the wearable & to give me a
second IRDA server on the home LAN here!) as they're cheap enough; these
are IBM "Options" units, I need to get around to installing them but
I've dealt with HSC previously, no problems so far.
