My desktop drives measure 1.9" pin 1 to pin 20 (across top of connector) My laptop drives measure 1.7" pin 1 to pin 22. There's not really all THAT much difference, obviously; I'd avoid running either near metal (capacitive loading problems) as much as possible, let's call the full-width cables 2" and 1-3/4" total width max (about 1/4" width difference.) The laptop drives connectors are on about a 0.8" (or metric) spacing, not 0.1" centers as desktop drives. Can't find my metric ruler, just a tape measure this AM! I don't recall seeing the laptop ribbon cabling anywhere, I haven't been looking though. Maybe just split regular spacing 44-pin cable in half between the connectors, that gives you just over 1" width & tends to work well usually. (I can help trace pinouts on the adapters if needed, just ask & give me time!) Mark WillisR.
