Download Sulawesi and have a play
http://wearables.essex.ac.uk/sulawesi/index.html

At the moment i only have speech recognition and speech generation under
windoze, if somebody had a spare 5 mins they could knock up a speech
renderer using festival or rsynth (the API for sulawesi is on the web
page), speech recognition under linux I have not attempted yet, but I
had a look at Abbot (http://www.softsound.com/index.html) and it's
probably not to hard to intergrate it into Sulawesi.

I have Sulawesi reading the news from the bbc's web site, and telling me
the time.
It's not much at the moment, but the posibilities are countless.

Hope this helps
Neill
