I'm getting the impression that most people here would consider some sort of cellular phone functionality as a necessary standard feature of an MMW. Am I right? I think right now we are actually seeing the most inroads for wearables being made in the mobile phone market. There are a few like the nokia phone with a fold out keyboard that may legitametly be considered WCs. This is actually a good comparison when trying to make price estimates. How much are these phones? None have yet to provide a real platform for hardware and software development. Nor has any embraced the idea of being worn continuosly as an augmentation. So lets assume an MMW with a touchscreen, size of a deck of cards, stackable PMCIA expandability, built in cellular phone, headphone/mic i/o, voice i/o, IRDA, and a good battery life. How much would this cost? To qualify a few things- for voice i/o the ideal implementation would be a minimal configuration that accepts a limited set of voice commands, but can be made more capable with a vocabulary expansion on a flash card. Also, are there any reasons why HMD capability would have to be hardwired into the base unit instead of added later? -- Bill Nordstrom University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center 5323 Harry Hines Blvd. Dallas, TX 75235-9039 W:214-648-9227 Fax: 214-648-8694 emailCooltalk: 129.112.20.190
