Certainly the Lizzy design is a lesson in learning as you go. I generally only do software and am not very dextrous (ask my undergrads :-) . However, I just overdesigned to compensate for my incompetance and things came out fine. This is why I was so confident in putting the design on the web - it went through testing by a lot of people who hadn't touched a soldering iron before. However, if you have a local HAM or electronics club, take advantage of it. There are a lot of tricks, like how to conveniently tear duct tape, that are best learned
