I'm using packet radio now.. I set up a base connected to my server stack, and have a high power radio with a very high 1/4 wave antenna... Works great for basic stuff... problem is packet is at 1200bps 1/2 duplex.. Most throuput speeds are around the 800-1000 bps range (depending on location, building i'm in, etc.... Packet is great, in fact my portable would be less useful without it... but my wearable will have a quickcam on it and I'd like to do a "wear-net-cam".. I'm trying to get 9600bps packet to work, but 440mhz behaves very different than 144mhz and power requirements and feedline loss become a great concern. (makes the wearable unit much larger) and there is a problem with packet radio... no commercial activity, no profanity, no unacceptable behaivoir... recieving your email can break those laws easily... Spam, flames, mindless morons that swear every other word.... Encryption is not an option as that breaks a law as well.. so a commercial unit would solve those problems and give me decent speed.. (I hope!) > What about packet radio, I've heard of others on the group using >it for email, etc. I don't know how fast it would be, however. Probably >no where near a T3 ;).
