Yes, the Powerbook is great from this perspective, but the PowerBook encourages the FreeBSD software license which I'm not confident about, which also Microsoft consider to be less "viral" than GPL. I did, however, buy my now 23 year old daughter at her birthday one year ago an iBook last year to provide her with a more friendly environment, which she loves. Even though she is a really smart person I still didn't consider Linux to yet be friendly enough to her, because she is not a geek person. So this was the best thing I could provide for her. If this society was a little more advanced, the issue about GPL or FreeBSD shouldn't really matter, but as it is still today, these things matters. The Apple OSX still contains a lot of proprietary software so I can't promote Apple. Our managing director also has a PowerBook (and iPod) which he loves, despite that our company's whole environment is based upon Linux. / aim mrchaotica writes: > Well, if you have a problem with the Microsoft tax, you > can wait for the Zaurus, which not only "punishes" (not > quite the word I want, but oh well) Compaq for choosing > Microsoft, but rewards Sharp for choosing Linux.
